Central Istria
The region of Central Istria is one of the rare Mediterranean regions adorned with the quality of rich heritage and unspoilt natural landscapes. Numerous coves and hillocks connect and divide many magic-like settlements, creating almost surreal vistas. If you would like to spend your holidays in Croatia, visit the inland Istria and enjoy the peace and quiet of its unspoilt nature.
Kanfanar
Kanfanar is situated in the southwest of the Istrian peninsula. It is 8 km away from the coastline, 17 km from Rovinj and 28 km from Pula. The Istrian Y (Istarski Y), a newly built expressway connecting Italy, Slovenia and the Učka tunnel with Kanfanar, enables one to reach Kanfanar by car or train in approximately half an hour.
Dvigrad
Just a few kilometres west of Kanfanar, one can find ruins of the medieval town of Dvigrad which even nowadays dominates the scenery above the Lim canal. Although abandoned by its inhabitants, the town is rather well preserved since it had not been destroyed in ancient wars waged in the Istrian territory. Nowadays one can find the city gates, two rings of city walls, several turrets and most of the 200 town houses preserved. Dvigrad is a ‘must-see’ for anyone who finds himself in its vicinity. It is 20 minutes away from Rovinj and can be reached by car.
Šivati
Šivati may be reached from several directions by local asphalt roads. The tranquil and peaceful surroundings boast of highly diverse vegetation. There are several old stone houses in the hamlet inhabited by native Istrians. Grocery shopping may be done in Kanfanar and there is a mini shop in the village of Modrušani, only 500 m from Šivati.
